After their last album GRIZZLY (Igloo Records), the Toine Thys Trio strikes back with senegalese guitar player Hervé Samb as a very special guest. After touring the first cd all around Europe, in South Korea, Canada and West-Africa, and picked up the Jazzman/Jazzmag magazines “Révélation” award, as well as a ‘Must’ award from TSF Jazz radio, they will present this cd in more than 10 countries in spring 2018.
The Brussels saxophonist Toine Thys is joined by the Hammond organ master Dutchman Arno Krijger, drummer Karl Jannuska (CAN) for a very rhythmical but above all, musical adventure. They bring further the experiment with senegalese guitarist Hervé Samb, who worked with Meshell Ndegeocello (for whom he wrote a composition shared with Pat Metheny) Jimmy Cliff, David Murray or Oumou Sangaré.
« … Herve Samb is one of the biggest XXth century African revelation : sweet and ferocious groove (…) resuming jazz-rock-electro-bop-acoustic tradition, together with blues and a transfigured africa. » (Jazz magazine).
Toine Thys glides effortlessly from the tenor sax to the soprano and onto the bass clarinet with incisive and inspired playing. The trio accentuate the rhythmic dimension and the groove of the music. Together, the three musicians deliver music made of intoxicating melodies, frisky exchanges, and adventurous solos that only they hold the key to. On some of the tracks, the bass clarinet transforms the ambiance and adds layers of sensuality and mystery.
